The recent “FlexAlert” emergency in California due to high natural gas demands in the Northeastern US as temperatures dipped to frigid levels, creates some questions about the US’s ability to sustain the power necessary with the heavy reliance on natural gas and the related infrastructure. Though supposedly in a fracking boom that is supposed to bring about energy independence, this event highlights the fact that it is folly to completely rely on natural gas drilling without considering the infrastructure expenditures necessary to get the gas from well to outlet.
The inclusion of renewables into the energy portfolio of the US in a more robust manner can help alleviate these types of crises in the future. This was demonstrated clearly in California on Thursday Feb 6. To find out more info check out www.renewableenergyworld.com
